Residence registration in Korea: a first-arrival checklist

Foreign nationals who intend to stay in Korea for more than 90 days generally need to register within 90 days of entering. Exceptions and documents depend on your status. Check the requirements for your own case with Hi Korea or the Immigration Contact Center at 1345.

Prepare for registration

  1. Identify the immigration office responsible for your address and check how to book a visit.
  2. Use the document checklist for your status. Confirm what proof of residence, identification, photographs and fees are required.
  3. Keep the appointment confirmation and follow the office’s instructions for collecting your residence card.

After you receive the card

Check your name and dates. Ask your bank, mobile provider or other service what identification it accepts before visiting; a residence card alone does not guarantee account approval.

Keep your card number and scans private. For a change of address or status, confirm the reporting rules that apply to you.
